How Picsta's face recognition labels people in your photos

Picsta detects every face in your event, groups them into people, and lets you name them once to recognise them everywhere. It's what powers Find Me — guests pulling out just their own photos with a selfie.

What you can do

  • Faces are detected automatically after upload and grouped into people
  • Name a person once — they're recognised across all your events
  • Merge duplicate groups and remove a wrong tag from a photo
  • Hide anyone you don't want surfaced in Find Me or search
  • Face detection runs on Picsta's servers — not sent to third parties

Privacy

Face data stays on Picsta's own servers and is used only to match faces within your galleries. Guests' selfies are private to them, and you can hide a person from search at any time.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Upload your photos

After you upload, Picsta detects faces in the background — usually within minutes — and groups similar faces into people.

  2. 2

    Open the People list

On the event, open the People & Tags tab. Each person shows a representative face and how many photos they appear in.

  3. 3

    Name a person

Tap an unnamed group and type a name. Names are saved to your account, so once you label someone they're recognised across all your events.

  4. 4

    Merge or tidy up

If the same person was split into two groups (different angles or lighting), merge them. You can also remove a wrong tag from a photo.

  5. 5

Hide anyone who shouldn't be found

Choose Hide everywhere on a person to keep them out of Find Me and cross-event search. You can un-hide any time.

Frequently asked questions

How does Picsta know who's in a photo?
It detects faces in your photos and groups similar ones into people. You give each group a name once, and Picsta recognises that person across your other events too.
Why didn't a face get recognised?
Recognition runs a few minutes after upload, and works best on clear, reasonably front-facing faces. Very small or very dark faces may not be detected.
Can I stop someone being found?
Yes. Choose Hide everywhere on that person and they won't appear in Find Me results or cross-event search. They stay on the individual photos but aren't surfaced.
Is my photo data sent to an outside service?
No. Face detection runs on Picsta's own servers and the face data stays there — your photos aren't sent to any third-party service.
